Twenty Years of Weezer
My first shoot with Weezer was in 2000 for Alternative Press. The direction from the magazine was to shoot the band with the theme "2001: A Space Odyssey." My friend and assistant Nate Bressler and I were in the back office of my house tossing ideas around and thought it would be funny to make a cardboard UFO and make clothes out of tinfoil. This was before I got sober and I believe drinking was involved in the idea process. I called stylist Houston Sams and she loved the idea. Went to Home Depot, bought some supplies, and voila. I remember explaining the idea to Rivers when they showed up, and getting a sort of blank stare. I wasn't sure if he was into it, but now after knowing him for twenty years he was just taking it in and getting into character. They must have liked me because I was invited back again and again to work on various projects. We still work together and I consider them friends. We shot a project last year which I believe launches soon, but it was put on hold due to a pandemic.
There are only a couple of relationships in my thirty-year career that have lasted as long and been as meaningful as working with Weezer. The other two are Getty Images and BOTE. Below are a bunch of my favorite images from 2000 to present. I hope y'all love them as much as I do.
